I thought I knew what cultural appropriation was. You know, the adoption of some specific elements of one culture by a different group, usually in a negative light. But now I don’t think I get it really?
I have a tattoo of Quetzalcoatl on my leg that I got done while in Oaxaca. No one there (or here) was upset that I have a rendition of an Aztec god on my leg. I love the Aztec culture, I love learning about it and I loved being able to see it for real while I was there. But is that cultural appropriation since I am not Aztec nor Mexican nor anything related in any sense and I have a tattoo of a god of theirs?
What about my nose piercing? Nose piercings are said to have originated in Berber and Beja tribes of Africa and the Bedouins of the Middle East and moved to India. Am I appropriating those cultures by having one?
I know cultural appropriation happens when a culture (white people) are all dismissive of a culture and then they steal pieces and parts to use as trends. Am I a bad person for having these things? I even have my damn ears stretched. Ugh. Anyone want to talk about my crisis with me? Help me understand?
i thought i was free of this kinda shit from my feed...
seriously though if you’re a “feminist” who believes touting misandry is going to solve anything gtfo my watchlist and blog. hate breeds more hate and more hate begets more of the same instead of any real change. and if there’s one thing i hate it’s cisphobic misandrist bullshit that won’t solve a single fucking thing
